Mixed-Age Classes
Each week in Music Together with Susan classes, we gather babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them® for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time. Susan will lead you and the other families through music activities ranging from lullabies to full-on jam sessions (with child-friendly instruments, of course!). It's so much fun you won't realize how much learning is taking place!
You'll take home the award-winning music used in class, along with an illustrated songbook and other resources. As you discover new ways to play with music all week long, you'll be supporting your child's music-learning and overall development - even if you don't think of yourself as a great singer or dancer.
Why Mixed-Age? (newborn to five)
Child development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one classroom encourages natural, family-style learning, so Music Togther developed the Mixed-Age Music Class. Here, everyone participates at their own level: babies vocalize, listen, and observe; toddlers play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge as classroom leaders. Grownups are happy because everyone can come to class together!
Generations Class at Oakwood Prairie Ridge
Generations is a Mixed-Age class which is offered at a elder facility and includes Grand-Friends within the class. Regardless of age or ability, everyone is invited to participate in the rich Music Together® activies that include singing, dancing, clapping, tapping, shaking shakers, and swinging scarves. We know that music "speaks" to all ages and taps into a kind of joy and fun in a unique way.
Rhythm Kids® Class (four to seven)
Music Together Rhythm Kids® supports your child's musical development through active classes geared toward older children. Your big kids will improve their musical competency and creative expression through drumming, singing, improvisation, ensemble work, and organized music games (with rules!). Much of the music will be new along with a few Music Together favorites. The song selection emphasizes rhythms based in cultures from around the world from Puerto Rico to Mali to Japan. Parents are encouraged but not required to attend Rhythm Kids® classes. Like Mixed-Age classes, children will recieve a beautifully illustrated book, a guide for parents, downloadable music, and a cd. They will also have access to video drumming lessons from Rhythm Kids® creator, Tom Foote. Sign up for weekly 45-minute classes to continue your child's musical journey. If your older child can keep a steady beat and loves to sing and/or dance, they are perfect for this class!
